I'm always eager and excited to photograph seniors pursuing their passion. Sometimes it's football, baseball, or basketball. I've worked with tennis players and swimmers. But this shoot was extra cool -…
It's my favorite time of the year and one of my favorite family portrait locations. The trees are just starting to turn that amazing golden color and before we know it,…
People (especially kids) often find themselves more relaxed as the photo session goes on. After ten or fifteen minutes we all get to know each other a little better, and…

We started Elie and Michael’s engagement session near Union Station, then worked our way through the streets of Denver. Downtown Denver has such an architectural diversity that there truly is something for every taste.
Despite being the end of November, the weather was perfect. It was near 70 degrees and not a cloud in the sky. Gotta love Colorado! It was a perfect evening for a walk downtown.
We are based out of Erie, Colorado, and hold many of our portrait sessions in and around Boulder. But, after this session, I think I have a new favorite location. With all of this impressive architecture, I can safely add downtown Denver to my list of awesome portrait photography venues- especially for engagement sessions.

I love being able to watch my clients’ children grow up in front of my camera. They go from wide-eyed toddlers to young people with their own ideas and passions for sports, music, and a host of other things. These two guys are a couple of my favorites to photograph. They’re happy, and extremely outgoing, every time I see them – and they love their sports!
The first time I took sports portraits of them was about three years ago. It was a surprise gift for their dad. Mom brought them to the studio with a car load of dad’s high school football equipment and his Letterman’s Jacket. The idea was to use their dad’s beloved sports gear as props with his kids. The guys had a blast, and the gift was a huge success.
Now, these two have a new baby sister. After the traditional family portraits were taken, my buddies pulled out their own jerseys! Their passion is hockey, with a little bit of football mixed in. I look forward to watching these two, and their sister, grow into true athletes. I also look forward to documenting some successful careers!
The photographs on the left were taken in March of 2010. The one’s on the right were done November 2013. (more…)
The loving connections made by this fun, affectionate family are what make these portraits so special.
A beautiful family portrait isn’t only about being posed well under proper lighting. What separates a great family photo from an average one is the visible love and emotion shared by family members. Whether it is happiness and wonder in a child’s eyes, the tenderness of a loving couple, or the connection between every member of an extended family – the emotion of the image is what draws us in. The viewer becomes a part of that precious moment in time, regardless of whether or not they know that particular family. A great family portrait coveys a timeless message, like the comfort of a parent’s love and the simple joy that is had by being together.
