Having your senior photos taken in your hometown is one of the best ways to look back and remember “the days”.
Every town, no matter how big or small, will have plenty of cool places for your senior portrait session. You will see lots of examples of home town senior photo shoots throughout my website and Recent Shoots blog.
We started this session out by shooting in and around the storefronts our senior’s home town of Erie, Colorado. We walked up and down Main street and through the back alley looking for textures and shapes that will give the session that old town feel.
It’s absolutely gorgeous in Chautauqua Park, and it’s a very popular spot for seniors to go for their photos. Because it does get so crowded, it’s not really my favorite place to go, but it’s not that far from Erie, so we thought that would be a nice finish to a great day. We were right! The weather was nice, the sky was beautiful, and we got some great shots. Is Chautauqua prettier that Erie? Yes. Were the Chautauqua photos better than the Old Town Erie photos? You can be the judge, but I don’t think so. We all loved the shots that we got at The Flat Irons, but most of their favorite were taken right here, in their hometown of Erie, Colorado.
So, just because a location is prettier, doesn’t necessarily mean that the photos will be better. If you can only choose one location, go with the location that is more meaningful. It will be…well, more meaningful.
